For the cycling fans yesterday was one of the highlights of the season. As the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff won the Tour of Flanders after an exciting race, we found out that the real winner was a rather unknown Irish rider. Matt Brammeier came through first at a sprint in the village Sint-Eloois-Winkel. This however was quite lucrative for the rider of the small South African team MTN-Qhubeka, as he won his body weight in Belgian beer.
Even though Brammeier crowned himself national champion of Ireland 3 times, this was probably the greatest victory of his career. When a journalist before the start of the race told him about this special price, the Irishman immediately announced that this would be his main goal. Brammeier got in an early breakaway and made sure he got in front of his companions when they reached Sint-Eloois-Winkel. The rider was weighed at 73 kilos and so he could share 73 liters of Steene Molenbier with his team. That surely beats the hell out of that one lousy bottle of champagne that winner Kristoff received.
