Seven horrible alcohol combinations

We all know that mixing alcohol often leads to disastrous mornings the next day. But whether you have alcohol stamina or not, these seven combinations should never enter your “menu” on a night out. Here they are:

7. Beer + Wine

If you decide to leave out the liquor for the night, this does not automatically spare you the hangover. Stick to either beer or wine, because both alcohols are known for being a terrible addition to almost any drink you would gulp down. Otherwise you can find yourself sleeping through the alarm clock the next day.

6. Red Wine + No Food

If you have sensitive personality and even more sensitive stomach, you MUST order food with your red wine. The vicious compounds in the red wine called tannins can screw up your belly and the whole evening, if you don’t have a bite to sweep off those horrible particles. The other option is to eat shortly before sitting down to drink. Generally, the darker the wine, the more tannins it has.

5. Beer + Tequila

While the tequila itself can give you a pretty bad hangover, using beer as a chaser will further complicate the things. This combination best reflects the balance in nature: you have great fun in the evening, but the payoff in the morning makes you think whether that fun was worth.

4. Beer and Cigarettes + No Food

A pint of beer and a cigarette

This combination holds the world record for the fastest bringing of a headache. If you spend several hours without letting go of the beer and the cigarette, you will have your head scattered before the evening ends. Especially if the beer is strong. The solution? Grab some dinner, otherwise you will suffer.

3. Beer + Vodka

Apart from creating guaranteed hangover, this combination will waste you in no time. It’s usually not good to mix beer with anything, but this is especially true when you drink vodka. Resort to that combo only when you want a swift intoxication and don’t care about the following day.

2. Anise drink with Mint liqueur (Creme de menthe)

Unless you want to wake up wrinkled from dehydration and with a head cut in half, this combination should be a big no-no. Usually, sweet drinks go hand in hand with hangover, and the mint liqueur may contain artificial colorings and flavorings on top of that. All those factors guarantee that the next morning you will feel not better than your green excrement.

1. Red Wine + Vodka

This combination is so bad that it has entered some anecdotes as a synonym of a disastrous mixture. The already mentioned tannins in the red wine irritate your stomach and literally drain the water out of your organism, and the vodka does not seem to take any measures against this. The cocktail with red wine and vodka is called “Brutal Hammer” for a reason. In an online recipe for it, we read that you should mix 150 g (5 oz) red wine, 200 g (7 oz) vodka in a large glass, “pray to God”, and then slam the drink. We recommend that if you decide to go for this combo after all, you’d better cancel everything you have to do the following day.

  1. Most all of those sound really horrible, esp the red wine and vodka (7oz of vodka?!?!). But, as an ex-smoker, I don’t remember any issues with cigarettes and beer, even on an empty stomach. Then again, my stomach is rarely ever empty!

  2. There’s a concoction ppl mix here in Trinidad with Puncheon Rum (75%) with beer. I will never try it, but it’s understandable why lots of people here have diabetes and hypertension.

  3. Red wine and no food is a bad idea, really? I like to drink my red wine before my meal arrives, because I don’t want any food flavors coating my tongue, interfering with the flavors of the wine. if this is wrong, I don’t wanna be right!

  5. #3 is called Yorsh (ёрш). Its purpose is to either make your beer kick more or your vodka last longer.
Special traits: Taste not largely impacted by proportions, works best with pale lager, capable of kicking even the toughest muzhik from the VDV in the pants hard enough to floor him.
Advice: Never drink on an empty stomach, especially if you don’t know the proportions.
