A little goes a long way, and that's good value! The product inside is a thick black base, slightly sticky, that you carve out with a spoon. It's not difficult to work with like molasses, but not hard or waxy, either--somewhere in between the two. For a full pot of chili, I used about 1/4 of a tsp and let it melt in. The directions call to stir it into liquid to make a bouillon, but it can absolutely be used as a finisher, too. It's salty and umami, and I can tell that this jar will last a long time. It adds a good flavor and zhuzhes up stews and soups.
