Recent User Experience

I had been buying nonfat milk that always seemed to be going bad before I could use it. I got tired of wasting money. I wanted the convenience of knowing I had milk available all the time, without worrying about it going bad. And that meant I needed to get ahold of some powdered milk. I had never tried powdered milk before. There are some sort of negative associations with powdered milk, but I thought, hey- just go on Amazon, read the reviews, and see what's what. This brand of milk got good reviews. I liked that it is pasteurized, and that it is non-fat. It is also a good price compared to others. I placed my order. There was a learning curve to making my first couple of batches. I put the water into a bowl, added the milk powder, and whisked. And whisked. And- whisked. I was starting to think I was never going to be able to get the powder to dissolve properly. I was using a wire whisk, and it seemed to take forever to try to blend all of the powder into the water before putting the mixture into the fridge. In the end, I gave up trying to vanquish the lumps, did the best I could, and put the liquid into the refrigerator. I found if I let the "milk" sit, the powder all seemed to dissolve. Or, at least when I used it, I wasn't finding any lumps.I am on a no- or lowest sugar possible diet, and use non-fat milk to make zero sugar pudding as a treat. I did taste the reconstituted powdered milk before I blended it into the the powdered pudding (lots of powdered food around here lately, lol) and to my surprise- it tasted great! I had smelled the milk mixture as I was blending it, and it had sort of an odd scent. However, there was no odd scent to the refrigerated milk, and no odd taste. At all. It tasted- well-- it had a very neutral taste. It didn't taste like water, though. It tasted like non-fat milk, which really doesn't have a ton of flavor. But the SANALAC milk did have that nice nuance of dairy flavor. I was very pleasantly surprised, actually, at how good it tasted. As far as the blending issue- I am now making the SANALAC milk in larger batches, and am using my hand blender to do so. The hand blender gets the powder/water mixing job done in no time, with no "are there still any lumps in there?" issues at all. The mixture does froth up quite a bit, but this is normal, I've come to find. The bubbles subside eventually, and the milk is fine. I just pour the blended, bubbly mixture into a an empty juice pitcher, and put it into the fridge.I usually use the blended milk within two or three days. It is always nice and fresh-tasting. It doesn't say on the container, which is kind of odd, how long the mixed milk is good for in the refrigerator. I imagine 3-5 days is best, if the blended milk is refrigerated immediately after mixing. Of course, the smell and taste of the product will let you know if it is still ok to drink, and there is a 1-800 number on the container. I might call it, as I am curious, but honestly as I use it up so fast after making it, the freshness of the milk is not an issue for me.If you are considering trying powdered milk in order to save money or as a back-up pantry item, I thoroughly recommend this SANALAC non fat milk. I am now a repeat customer. It’s good stuff.
