I was making the family some all-in-of-what's-left-of-the-fridge stew tonight and I grabbed the original chicken stock stick from Cookstix to try out. This dehydrated chicken stock powder isn’t your average bouillon cube - it’s closer to real broth, with each pack concentrated enough to make about 4 cups. The broth doesn't take on an unnaturally yellow color like bouillon does. It's also pretty space considering 1 stick is for 4 cups! Makes it much easier to carry around than a whole box of broth.The ingredient list is simple and transparent: dehydrated chicken broth, salt, yeast extract, natural flavors, garlic and onion powders, and white pepper. Nothing surprising, nothing unpronounceable.It’s gluten-free, paleo-friendly, and contains no sugar or mystery chemicals. In our household, we usually go for the jar paste (BTB, better than bouillon), but that can be bulky and takes up valuable fridge space. This powder is a nice middle ground: shelf-stable, easy to store, but with a rich, savory flavor closer to BTB. Has lower sodium, and makes a flavorful instant broth that's more complex and light at first note.It dissolved a little weird for me, like it wasn't hard to dissolve but it was so lightweight and finely milled it floated on the water for a bit before fully dissolving. Doesn't change function or anything for me, just wanted to mention it.
