Irish cyclist the real winner Tour of Flanders after receiving body weight in Belgian beer

For the cycling fans yesterday was one of the highlights of the season. As the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff won the Tour of Flanders after an exciting race, we found out that the real winner was a rather unknown Irish rider. Matt Brammeier came through first at a sprint in the village Sint-Eloois-Winkel. This however was quite lucrative for the rider of the small South African team MTN-Qhubeka, as he won his body weight in Belgian beer.

Even though Brammeier crowned himself national champion of Ireland 3 times, this was probably the greatest victory of his career. When a journalist before the start of the race told him about this special price, the Irishman immediately announced that this would be his main goal. Brammeier got in an early breakaway and made sure he got in front of his companions when they reached Sint-Eloois-Winkel. The rider was weighed at 73 kilos and so he could share 73 liters of with his team. That surely beats the hell out of that one lousy bottle of champagne that winner Kristoff received.

    • Hahahaha I wouldn’t mind to peddle a few (kilo)meters for this amount of beer! 😉

    • Well maybe… But guess that wasn’t an option. If I have the choice between a single bottle of champagne that they expect me to spray rather than drink or 73 bottles of good Belgian beer… Not the hardest choice I would say! 😀

      • Spray the champagne? what a waste of good spirits! btw, i had a really yucky drink over the weekend…tequila and grapefruit juice. it was not like lime and tequila. one citrus does not replace another equally well. i think that grapefruit juice woulda bin perfect with vodka though. p..s. my neighbor and i shared vodka last night. we are slowly killing the huge bottle he bought for me. good thing i like to share as he is consuming most of it. lol 🙂

      • I think grapefruit juice goes quite well with gin too. Also I think I like the mentality of your neighbor. Buying someone a liquid gift and then drink most of it yourself. Good job! 😛
